Binance minimum order size: why small orders get rejected

A Binance spot order has to clear both a minimum order value (5 USDT on USDT pairs) and the pair's quantity step. Those two limits explain rejected orders, the smallest BNB purchase and leftover balances you can't sell, as checked on 22 Sep 2026.

Binance minimum order size: why small orders get rejected

If Binance won't accept a small spot order, check two separate limits. The order has to be worth at least the pair's minimum value, and the quantity has to fit that pair's size increments. On USDT pairs the minimum value is 5 USDT. For BNB/USDT, the quantity must also be a multiple of 0.001 BNB. Both limits have to be met.

Checked on Binance's Trading Parameters page on 22 September 2026; Binance can change these limits for any pair, so check the current row before you place an order.

The four columns you need on the Trading Parameters page

Binance publishes the limits for each spot pair on its Trading Parameters page. Use the tabs to find your quote market (USDT, USDC and so on), or search for the pair. An order is checked against four columns:

Column on the page What it limits BNB/USDT on 22 Sep 2026
Min. Trade Amount The smallest quantity of the coin in one order 0.001 BNB
Min. Amount Movement The step size: the quantity must be a multiple of this 0.001 BNB
Min. Price Movement The price step for a limit price 0.01 USDT
Min. Order Size The smallest order value: price × quantity 5 USDT

Market orders have to clear the minimum value too: a market order has no price when you submit it, so Binance checks it against the average price over the last few minutes.

How much BNB is the smallest purchase?

For BNB/USDT, the 5 USDT minimum was the limit that mattered on the day of this check. At that day's price of about 786.49 USDT per BNB:

  • 0.001 BNB is worth about 0.79 USDT, so the quantity minimum is easy to meet;
  • 0.006 BNB is worth about 4.72 USDT, which is below 5 USDT and would be rejected;
  • 0.007 BNB is worth about 5.51 USDT, which is the smallest order in 0.001 steps that passes.

So on that day the smallest BNB/USDT spot order was about 0.007 BNB. When the price changes, the answer changes. To work it out yourself, divide the minimum order value by the current price and round up to the next step. You can't enter 0.0065 BNB because it isn't a multiple of 0.001.

This applies only to spot orders on that pair. Buying with a card, P2P or Convert are separate products with their own on-screen limits, and this article does not cover them.

Not every pair uses 5 USDT

The minimum is set for each pair and is priced in that pair's quote asset. The values on 22 September 2026:

Pair Min. order value Min. quantity / step
BTC/USDT 5 USDT 0.00001 BTC
ETH/USDT 5 USDT 0.0001 ETH
XRP/USDT 5 USDT 0.1 XRP
BNB/USDC 5 USDC 0.001 BNB
BNB/EUR 5 EUR 0.001 BNB
BNB/BTC 0.0001 BTC 0.001 BNB
BNB/BRL 10 BRL 0.001 BNB
USDT/BRL 10 BRL 0.1 USDT

If you want to trade a small balance in a Brazilian real (BRL) market, you need to clear 10 BRL, not 5. On a BTC-quoted pair, the minimum is in BTC, so its value in dollars moves with the BTC price.

Why you can't sell your whole balance

The step size is also why a leftover balance can be impossible to sell. Say you buy exactly 0.01 BNB, and the 0.1% trading fee is taken in BNB rather than USDT. You receive 0.00999 BNB. (If you pay fees with BNB from a separate balance, the numbers work differently; see how spot fees and the BNB discount are charged.)

Now try to sell it:

  1. The quantity must be a multiple of 0.001, so the most you can enter is 0.009 BNB.
  2. 0.009 BNB at 786.49 USDT is about 7.08 USDT, which clears the 5 USDT minimum. The order is accepted.
  3. 0.00099 BNB stays in your wallet. It is worth about 0.78 USDT, and no order can sell it. It is too small in quantity and in value.

That leftover is what Binance calls a "small balance" or "dust". It is a side effect of the step size, not a failed trade.

A balance can also be above the quantity minimum but below the minimum value. For example, 0.006 BNB is five steps above 0.001 BNB, but it's worth only about 4.72 USDT. To sell it through a spot order, you either wait until the price rises enough, or add to the position until the combined quantity clears 5 USDT and sell it all together. If adding money just to get a small balance out isn't worth it to you, the conversion below is the other route.

Converting small balances: what the official FAQ says

Binance's FAQ on converting small balances (last updated 5 August 2026) describes a separate small-balance conversion:

  • balances worth under 20 USDT qualify;
  • you can convert them to BNB, BTC, ETH, USDT or USDC;
  • you can use it once every hour;
  • a flat 2% fee applies, or 10% for Alpha tokens;
  • it works on the Spot, Funding and Alpha wallets;
  • unlisted or delisted tokens can't be converted, and a conversion won't go through if the price moves 5% or more during it.

Check that 2% against the actual amount. On about 0.78 USDT of leftover BNB, it comes to roughly 0.016 USDT. On a 15 USDT balance you could have sold through a normal order, 2% is 0.30 USDT, compared with about 0.015 USDT at the 0.1% trading fee. Use the conversion for balances you can't sell with an order, not to get around the minimum on larger amounts.

Withdrawal minimums are a separate limit

The Trading Parameters page covers orders only. When you withdraw coins, the withdrawal screen shows its own minimum amount and network fee for each asset and network. A balance you can trade may still be too small to withdraw on some networks. Before sending anything out, run the checks in what to verify before a Binance withdrawal.

When an order is rejected

Open the pair's row in the right quote-market tab of the Trading Parameters page and test the order against the limits in the first table: order value, quantity step and, for a limit order, price step. If the balance can't meet them, the small-balance conversion is the remaining route, at its 2% fee.
