Binance proof of address rejected? Accepted documents and how recent they must be
Binance checks three things on a proof-of-address upload: the document type, its issue date against your country's limit, and whether the name and address match your form. The limit runs from two months in India to six months in most countries.
Binance reviews a proof-of-address (POA) upload against three things: whether the document type is on its accepted list, whether it was issued recently enough for the country you live in, and whether the name and address on it match what you entered in the verification form. A sharp, well-lit photo still fails if any one of those is off, so work out which check the rejection relates to before uploading again.

What the document has to show
Proof of identity (POI) confirms who you are; proof of address confirms where you live. They are separate uploads, and the POA must be issued in the name of the account owner. Every item below needs to be visible on the same document:
- Your name, matching the ID you submitted
- Your home address, matching the residential address you typed into the form
- The date of issue
- The issuing authority
- Something that identifies that issuer, such as a logo, contact details or a website
Points 1 and 2 are compared with your account data, not just checked for presence. A bank statement that still shows your previous address, a utility bill in a partner's or landlord's name, or a name written without the middle name that appears on your passport can each cause a rejection even though the document itself is genuine. If the mismatch is on the identity side, sort that out first; what to fix after a Binance KYC rejection covers name, residence and issuing-country errors.
How recent the document must be
The age limit depends on where you live, counted from the issue date printed on the document. The April 2026 version of Binance's help page lists:
| Where you live | Maximum age of the document |
|---|---|
| Japan, Kazakhstan, France | 6 months |
| Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Poland, Spain, Sweden | 3 months |
| Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Dubai | 3 months |
| India | 2 months |
| All other countries | 6 months, or up to 1 year if the document itself states a longer validity |
Two document types carry their own limits: a government tenancy contract or tenancy registration certificate is accepted within 1 year, and a certificate of residence from a local government within 3 or 6 months depending on the jurisdiction. The help article is updated periodically, so compare this table with the current page linked at the end before you pick a document.
Documents Binance accepts
The accepted list falls into four groups.
Utilities and services
electricity, water or sewerage bills; a utility contract confirmation signed by the provider; an internet provider statement; a landline, internet, TV or bundled communications bill. Mobile phone bills are excluded except in some jurisdictions that the page does not name.
Banks and approved financial institutions
bank or credit card statements; investment account statements; a stamped or signed bank reference letter, address confirmation letter or account balance letter; a bank statement with an account summary; a bank transfer receipt or money transfer confirmation; debit or credit advices; mortgage statements.
Government documents
official government correspondence; a government tenancy contract or tenancy registration certificate; a local government certificate of residence; a national ID card or permanent residence permit that shows your address.
Other documents
building management statements; home insurance statements or certificates; a student rental agreement for university housing; a letter from a university confirming you attend and where you live; government student grant or loan documents sent to your current address.
An ID card or residence permit can serve as POA only if it is a different document from the one you used for identity verification. The help page also links official portals where some countries' residents can download address documents, including Dubai Land Department's Ejari certificate, Italy's national population register and Sweden's tax agency.
Documents that get rejected
Binance lists these as not accepted in general:
- Statements for credit cards issued by retail stores
- Payslips and employment contracts
- Transaction receipts, even when they show a delivery or billing address
- Preliminary bank statements
- Bank letters or marketing material, including closed-debt letters and statements showing only fees
- Statements of fees
- Mortgage or loan letters and marketing material (actual mortgage or loan statements are fine)
- Bills that do not name the product or service
- Insurance documents other than home insurance
- Streaming service bills
- Mail forwarding or virtual office addresses
- Utility cut-off notices, payment reminders and payment schedules
- Medical bills
- Documents addressed to a P.O. box
File format and photo rules
Binance recommends a PDF. Colour screenshots and scans are also accepted as long as the first page of the document is clearly visible and every detail is readable. Photocopies are not accepted, and neither are black-and-white scans.
- Accepted file types are .PDF, .JPG, .JPEG and .PNG. Other formats will not upload.
- Photograph paper documents in portrait orientation with all four corners in the frame.
- Avoid blur, reflections and cut or folded-over edges.
- Upload the original, unedited file. Do not crop out lines or black out details before checking what the review needs, because the name, address, date and issuer all have to stay visible.
If the bill only exists online, download the PDF from the provider's own account page instead of taking a screenshot of part of it. A partial screenshot can cut off the first-page header, and with it details such as the issuer's name or the issue date.
Picking a replacement after a rejection
Match the fix to what failed:
- Too old: request a current statement or download the latest one from the issuer. Re-uploading the same file with a new photo does not change its issue date.
- Wrong document type: switch to one from the accepted groups. If you have no utility bills in your name, a bank statement or a government residence certificate may be easier to obtain.
- Name or address mismatch: get a document that shows the details as they appear in your account, or correct the account details through Binance's official verification flow first. Editing a PDF to change an address is document falsification and will not help.
Binance says a POA review can take up to 1 to 2 working days and that you will be notified of the result without needing to contact support. If that time has passed with no change, use the support entry inside the official app or website and mention the submission time and the exact status shown. Upload documents only through the verification page in your account. A message asking you to send a bill or ID through an outside link or chat is a warning sign; how to check whether a Binance email or message is real explains how to verify it.
